And there are moments where not only everybody questions, but you also ask yourself: “What happened to the sunny, confident, and engaged person I knew?” I know you heard this saying “Do not judge the book by its cover.” Sometimes we may look our best, everything seems good outward, but you never know what’s raging inward.
For some reason, the course of life has a way of bringing those periods of time we call “down-times” and we hate it: Couples experience it, the company you own or work for go through it- you experience it in your finances, in your relationships with friends or family members, and even in your relationship with the Lord. Suddenly, things are clashing, the good you meant turned into bad. What you used to be good at seems not in your favor anymore, you overlook important things, you’re not thinking well, your mind is overwhelmed and confused, your spirit is quiet, the ideas won’t come. You want to write your story; no words appear on the page, nothing seems to go right and you don’t find the strength to try, you feel paralyzed from accomplishing anything; it seems failure’s surrounding you, and you feel a 2 on a scale one to ten.
The thing that really gets your attention in this moment of life is when even clothes that used to fit occasions don’t seem to do it anymore. You’re experiencing symptom of sickness, you are not sick but your brain fools your body into thinking you’re sick because when your spirit is down everything else is out of control, and all you want to do is to hide yourself from everything and everybody.
What do you do when it seems like everything has stopped on you? God desires that we turn to Him, especially when we are unable to handle life and trust that He can do what we cannot do. Don’t try to ignore it, acknowledge this is your “down times.” Take some time for yourself at Jesus’ feet to clear anything that clot the way, you may not know then what to say, or what to pray; it’s ok just be there, wait and trust, He see and knows well the battlefield we are all in, He will do the impossible, He will organize your thoughts and bring you back stronger than you were before. Wait at His feet and trust Him, is all we need to do to overcome these periods of time.
Have you been there or are you in one of those seasons?
